About VKochhar

Vineet Kochhar is a senior aerospace engineer who has been with AGI’s Product Support team for the past 14 years. Aside from fielding customer questions about AGI technology, Vineet is the primary contact for questions about the STK modules STK/Comm and STK/Radar. He has also worked on development of STK training materials. Vineet has been in the field of communications & network engineering for the last 28 years. Before joining AGI, Vineet worked as a communications engineer for Lockheed Martin in the Global Telecommunications division, and at Martin Marietta & General Electric in the Strategic Systems division. He has worked with Communications Network Analysis and Bit Level Simulations, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, and has developed a communications network simulator. Vineet holds a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from Drexel University and an M.S. in electrical engineering- communications systems from University of Southern California (USC).

LEO / GEO SATCOM Interference

LEO / GEO SATCOM Interference

STK can be used to model and analyze the interference from a constellation of Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites on the communications link between a Geostationary satellite to a ground link. In this example, a Geostationary satellite was configured with … Continue reading

Custom Transmission and Computing Signal-to-Noise Ratio

Custom Transmission and Computing Signal-to-Noise Ratio

In this blog, I am going to explain how to compute the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a custom transmission based on existing Communications Channel parameters in STK. The SNR parameter can be computed based on Link Budget parameters calculated in … Continue reading

Want to do Something Cool with Communications and Coverage?

Want to do Something Cool with Communications and Coverage?

With the Communications and Coverage modules, you can determine the surface area on Earth that is covered by a three (3) dB antenna contour. The intent of this blog is to walk you through how to set up the antenna, … Continue reading

Computing Communications Channel Capacity

*based on the Shannon-Hartley Capacity formula

Check out our Virtual Training on Evaluating Communications Links on June 28 Channel Capacity* is the tight upper bound on the (data) rate at which information can be reliably transmitted over a communications channel. STK doesn’t compute this through its Data … Continue reading

The Vector Geometry Tool: Computing the Intersection Between a Line and a Circle

The Vector Geometry Tool: Computing the Intersection Between a Line and a Circle

Given: Two known lat/lon points (a, b) and a circle centered on the 2nd point with known radius. Solve for the lat/lon of a point (a’) where the line intersects the circle. Solution Steps First turn off all terrain. … Continue reading
